Oblivion-- No more to say, and nothing to weep for but the Beings in the Dream, trapped in its disappearance, sighing, screaming with it, buying and selling pieces of phantom, worshiping each other, worshipping the God included in it all—longing or inevitability?—while it
lasts, a Vision—anything more? ... Kaddish, Part I Allen Ginsberg Kaddish VR is a dance solo choreographed by Heidi Latsky after the death of her father as an expression of mourning and memory. Re-created as a volumetric video, four views of a solo dancer move to an actual graveside recording of the Jewish prayer for the dead, the Kaddish.
Large color fields in a structure evoking Rothko Chapel frame each "instance" of the dancer. The viewer is in the midst of the “solos” all facing forward but seen simultaneously on every side as their colliding shadows move like restless specters released from the corporeal as the Kaddish is chanted. The chapel has no ceiling, only an endless night sky, so that the prayer ushers the soul away as we remain anchored in our memories. |
